AUSSIE comedian Dave Hughes has cracked into an AFL coach in an extended rant on Channel Nine’s The Footy Show.

The revamped program, featuring Eddie McGuire as its new host, relaunched Thursday night after shaking up its roster in an attempt to fix plummetting ratings.

Hughes took no time in picking his first victim after the short hiatus, launching a tirade against Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron in his segment Back to the Two’s.

The Giants coach, who has his team sitting pretty at second on the ladder, caught the eye of a number of fans after an bizarre outburst over the weekend as his side took a dominant lead over Melbourne.

“Have a look at this,” Hughes said. “They are 43 points in front. Leon Cameron, you’d think, would be pretty happy (being) second on the ladder. But is he happy?”

Footage then showed the 44-year-old punching a wall in the coach’s box.

“He’s not. He punches a wall and he broke a knuckle!” Hughes continued. “You’re 43 points up and your coach can’t focus on the rest of the game because he broke a knuckle.

“That is ridiculous, Leon Cameron. Imagine coaching Carlton who are bloody second last! Have a look at Bolts (Brendon Bolton), he’s not breaking knuckles. He’s just yelling into the back of his hand screaming: ‘Why did I accept this job?’”

NEWMAN ON EDDIE: ‘IT’S A DICTATORSHIP’

All eyes were on Eddie McGuire as he prepared to make his highly anticipated return to The Footy Show Thursday night.

The Channel Nine veteran made first appearance as host since 2005.

Sports presenter Craig Hutchison was the biggest name on the chopping block as ratings dipped to a new low. The 42-year-old made a heartbreaking confession on his podcast The Sounding Board late last month.

“The numbers weren’t there,” Hutchison told Garry Lyon on Channel Nine. “The ratings — we lost four nights of the year.

“I think there’s a reasonable expectation that if you’re going to host a television show is that you’re in good nick to do it and that you’re visually appealing to the audience.

“There’s a clear expectation — as there should be. The weird part about it is that I actually lost 16kg. But I’m still overweight.”

Long-time co-host Sam Newman says he’s keen to see the program return with McGuire at the helm after the Collingwood boss left the panel twelve years ago.

“Ed says jump and we say how high,” Newman said on A Current Affair.

“And that’s how it should be. That’s a dictatorship, don’t worry about that.”

Newman explained the moment he sent the TV show into a frenzy with his bizarre antics. The 71-year-old said his controversial middle finger raised towards the camera was a jab at political correctness.

“(It had) nothing to do with the people on our show, just the overall trend that the community is heading in,” he said.

McGuire recently shocked the country with his stunning body transformation. The 52-year-old adopted an “extreme” diet and shed an incredible amount of weight after eating next to nothing for an entire fortnight.

The results were immediate, with McGuire dropping 15kg in those first three weeks.

However, he also claimed he didn’t experienced any negative side effects — never feeling lethargic or hungry at any stage.

The 52-year-old has now lost a total of 20kg since committing to the program in May, despite going on an overseas holiday where he says he “ate for Australia”.
