Husband’s ‘sweet’ billboards leave Serena Williams in tears

A SERIES of billboards directed at Serena Williams popped up in Palm Spring this morning — and left the tennis star in tears.

Romantic.

SERENA Williams was crowned sportswoman of the year at the Laureus Awards on Wednesday (AEDT) and her husband wants a gong of his own — spouse of the year.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian wanted to do something special for his wife as she prepares to make a comeback to tennis after giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia in September. Clearly he followed the “go big or go home” philosophy.

Ohanian surprised Williams with billboards of her and their five-month-old daughter calling the tennis icon the “Greatest Momma Of All Time”, posted on the I-10 highway in Palm Springs, California.

The highway is located near the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, which is where Williams will pick up the racquet again at next month’s BNP Paribas Open.

“Literally am crying,” Williams replied on Instagram. “This is so sweet. I love you.”

Williams continues to put forward her case as the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). She sits second on the list of most major wins with 23 singles titles — the most recent of which came at the 2017 Australian Open when she was pregnant.

And as she returns to the court, there’s every chance she’ll add to that tally.

In Ohanian’s opinion, she’s also the Greatest Momma Of All Time.

The start of something special.

That baby looks a bit young to be a mum.

Oh we get it now. Serena is the GMOAT as well as the GOAT.

Williams, 36, revealed recently she almost died during childbirth because of blood clots in the lungs and a haematoma in her abdomen.

“I am so grateful I had access to such an incredible medical team of doctors and nurses at a hospital with state-of-the-art equipment. They knew exactly how to handle this complicated turn of events. If it weren’t for their professional care, I wouldn’t be here today,” Williams wrote in a column for CNN.com.

Husbands around the world will no doubt be cursing Ohanian for setting the bar so high when it comes to impressing their better half with grand, romantic gestures. But plenty were pretty sweet on the tech guru.

Fair play to Ohanian — anyone as cashed up as him probably can’t get away with breakfast in bed on the occasional Sunday to keep his wife happy, so he’s got to get inventive in the romance stakes.
