Former V8 driver Renee Gracie calls out Supercars for contradictory attitude towards women

Renee Gracie believes she will be one of the last female Supercars drivers because the sport falsely purports to support women.

Former V8 driver Renee Gracie has called out the sport ahead of the Bathurst 1000, arguing Supercars shows a contradictory attitude towards women.

Gracie made her Supercars debut in 2015, breaking a 14-year drought for female drivers in the sport. She became the first Australian woman to compete full-time in Supercars and was popular around the track.

At the Bathurst 1000 that year, Gracie combined with Simona de Silvestro to form the first female pairing in the sport since 1998.

On the eve of Sunday’s Bathurst 1000, Gracie accused Supercars of falsely purporting to support women, warning there may not be another female driver in the sport for a while.

“For years I raced in development series and Supercars wanted to promote that I was a woman racing,” Gracie told The Daily Telegraph .

“I was this ‘sex sells’ figure. They wanted to benefit from it.

“Now I’m in the industry I am, and I’ve made the change, they want nothing to do with it.

“It’s funny, it’s so contradicting because they sold me as a ‘sex sells good looking driver’ and now I’m in an industry where I make money from my good looks, they want nothing to do with me.

“They claim to promote women. They push it. They want a female so bad, but at the same time, they don’t really.

“There are people in Supercars with old school mentalities. It’s 2020 some things have to change.

“It’s a tough industry for women, and I don’t think we will see a female driver for a long time.”

Gracie and de Silvestro placed 21st at the Bathurst 1000 in 2015, before finishing 14th twelve months later.

Last week, Gracie broke her silence on the infamous “P***y Wagon” saga, revealing she was encouraged to publicly condemn the uncouth remark from Holden star Dave Reynolds.

Since leaving professional racing in 2016, the 25-year-old is making bank as an adult entertainer, selling photographs and videos for $12.95 a month on adult subscription website onlyfans.com.

The Daily Telegraph reported she currently earns up to $500,000 every month on the pornographic website.

“It has been the best thing I have done in my whole life,” Gracie told News Corp Australia in June.

“It has put me in a financial position I could never have dreamt of and I really enjoy it.

“I am fine with whatever they want to call me. I am earning good money and I am comfortable with where I am at.”

In June, Supercars released a statement further distancing the sport from Gracie.

“Supercars is aware of the article regarding former Super2 driver Renee Gracie,’’ a spokesman said.

“As Ms Gracie is no longer competing in Super2, Supercars will not be commenting further.”
