Conor McGregor was grilled again on his spat with Machine Gun Kelly at the Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York this week, maintaining he doesn’t know the musician after their red carpet confrontation sparked headlines.

McGregor initially said “nothing happened” between him and Machine Gun Kelly, real name Colson Baker, despite footage appearing to show the UFC star throwing a drink at the 31-year-old.

Security also intervened to separate the pair after McGregor got riled up.

Both the Irishman and MGK’s girlfriend, Hollywood icon Megan Fox, responded to the incident on the red carpet where McGregor described reports of an altercation as “just rumours”.

The 33-year-old was asked about the clash again outside his hotel in New York, where he said he knows Fox because she’s a big UFC fan, but not her boyfriend.

“I’m free here in New York City. I’m back in New York, I got to go to the Barclays Centre again. I got to present an award. I was just going to have a good time, you know what I mean?” McGregor told Adam Glyn in a video uploaded to YouTube.

“That’s it. All love, all love!

“It’s all good. Come to the next fight and watch me perform any time. I perform, no problem. Everyone’s more than welcome to come to my fights or come to the shows.

“No beef. I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know him. Who is he?

“Megan’s been at the fights (for) years, so I know Megan.

Meanwhile, betting markets have already opened up on the prospect of a celebrity boxing match between McGregor and Machine Gun Kelly. Online sportsbook BetOnline is offering odds on what will happen next after their VMAs stoush.

Baker refused to address the incident when quizzed about it at the VMAs, walking away from an interview, while Fox replied: “We’re not allowed to say.”

One source told the New York Post “They scuffled, then it settled down and Conor went for him again”, while another added: “(McGregor) was ready to throw fists. Security was having trouble holding him back.”

There was speculation McGregor became upset when his request for a photo with Machine Gun Kelly was snubbed, but the Irishman’s representatives denied that was the case.

“Conor McGregor did not ask anyone for a picture, nor did he instigate this incident,” a statement read. “He does not know Machine Gun Kelly, outside of the fact that he attended Conor’s fight this past July.”

Fox and Machine Gun Kelly were in the crowd for McGregor’s loss to Dustin Poirier in July, where The Notorious suffered a broken leg in the first round.

“I’m actually a huge UFC fan. I have UFC Fight Pass and I know all the fighters and their backstories,” Fox told US TV host Jimmy Kimmel.

“Whenever it’s Conor, it’s always insane.”
