Cody Simpson reveals why he ended it with Miley Cyrus

Aussie superstar Cody Simpson has revealed he only has room for one love in his life — and it’s why Miley Cyrus no longer fit.

Cody Simpson has revealed he only has room for one love in his life — and for the next three years he will be in a committed relationship with the Olympic pool.

The pop superstar’s journey from music artist to swimming has captivated fans — and his new revelations about his private life show how serious he is about his new life direction.

Simpson has revealed to The Sunday Telegraph his relationship with Miley Cyrus had to end as a result of his decision to blow up his previous life and focus on the grind of becoming an Olympic athlete.

That break-up is now a true reflection of his private life — and how it fits in with his swimming career.

The internationally-famous pop star and ex-boyfriend of Gigi Hadid and Cyrus has ditched his guitar and A-list mates in Los Angeles to pursue his ambition of one day competing at the biggest sporting event on the planet.

A talented swimmer in his teenage years with state titles to his resume, Simpson changed lanes to become a musical sensation, collaborating with the likes of Ziggy Marley and Flo Rida and Justin Bieber.

The burning desire to rekindle his childhood love was stoked at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Simpson was in Brazil on a corporate gig and spent plenty of time on the pooldeck watching people he’d competed against strut their stuff in the hope of standing on the podium.

The 25-year-old shocked the world to qualify for the finals of the 100m butterfly event at the Australian Olympic Swimming Trials in Adelaide in June, but finished last in the final, a cruel reminder of the huge mountain he was trying to climb after returning to the sport last year following 10 years away pursuing a music career.

Simpson has said all along he has been aiming for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

That’s where his relationship with Cyrus comes back into his story.

The pair separated in August 2020 — just as Simpson revealed his true love is the pool.

He told The Sunday Telegraph chasing his swimming comeback meant making “compromises and sacrifices”. The break up with Cyrus was a direct consequence of his new life direction.

It’s something that not everyone gets, and that was part of the reason I had to end my past two previous relationships.

“The first one with Miley [Cyrus], I’d just started training towards the end of our relationship and it put me on a path where I realised I was going to go back to Australia if I was going to do it properly,” he said.

“I saw all these realisations that maybe it’s time to turn the page in a chapter. And with my recent ex [model Marloes Stevens], it was one of those things, too, where it can be difficult to maintain a personal relationship when you just don’t have time, and any time you’re not training, you just want to be in bed asleep.”

Simpson says juggling a music career and his swimming is now possible and healthy for him — despite last year saying he couldn’t afford the distraction of continuing his music career.

He has now released a new track, titled ‘Let Go’.

The music is now a welcome distraction from his arduous, never-ending training program.

But that wasn’t the case 12 months ago.

“‘I’ll always have music, but there’s a limited time for swimming and I just want to be able to, win or lose, look back one day and say, well, at least I gave it my best shot,” he said.

His journey will end in three years’ time at the 2024 Games in Paris.
