Child reporter’s brilliant grilling of Nick Kyrgios
A young fan has expertly conducted an interview with the Aussie tennis star in an at times heartwarming but also exposing exchange.
If Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios thought he was going to be let off easy by this little legend he quickly found out he was wrong.
Child reporter Vuk Vitic delivered gold as part of a series of interviews for the Lawn Tennis Association at the Queen’s Club tournament.
He immediately put Kyrgios on the back foot by calling out his work ethic.
Vuk: Now, my first question for you: I get told off if I don’t work hard at school. Do you get told off when you don’t work hard at tennis?
Kyrgios: I don’t have a coach so no one tells me anything, but yeah I should work hard.
Vuk: Some people told me — not me — that you don’t try sometimes.
Kyrgios: Yeah I don’t. Makes me a bad guy.
Vuk: You ought to try.
Kyrgios: Yeah, you’re right.
Vitic also drew revealing responses from Kyrgios on close friend Andy Murray and not-so-close rival Novak Djokovic.

Vuk: Who is better at tennis, you or Andy Murray?
Kyrgios: Andy Murray for sure. His record is 5-1 against me. Grand slam champion. One of the greatest of all-time. You weren’t expecting that answer were you?
Vuk: Don’t forget Novak Djokovic.
Kyrgios: Who?
Vuk: Novak Djokovic.
Kyrgios: Who’s that?
Vuk: He’s the Serbian tennis player!
Kyrgios: Oh, yeah I think I know him. Sorry.
Vuk: How did you and Andy Murray become friends?
Kyrgios: He just kind of kept messaging me — like he was that guy that kept messaging me like ‘hey, do you want to hang out? Do you want to hang out? Do you want to hang out?’. And I was like geez this guy is like crazy, high-maintenance. And then I thought I’d reply like ‘do you want to get some dinner?’ and then he didn’t even pay for it. And then we just became friends, I guess.
Vuk: Why didn’t Andy ask to play doubles with you?
Kyrgios: Well, first of all I don’t play doubles at Wimbledon because it’s best of five sets. But there are lots of good doubles players out there that are probably a little better than I am. I think he wants to win the championship.
Vuk: Of course he does. Everyone wants to, don’t they?
Kyrgios: That’s true, yeah.
