Cavinder twins go viral after March Madness heartbreak
Social media sensations Haley and Hanna Cavinder have shaken off their latest setback in the only way they know how.
Haley and Hanna Cavinder are shaking off their March Madness 2023 ouster.
In a video posted on TikTok, the social media sensations and collegiate athletes — whose Miami Hurricanes lost to the now-champion LSU Tigers in the Elite Eight of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament — can be seen showing off their moves while dancing in bikinis.
“We luv this dance,” the Cavinders captioned the clip, which has been viewed more than 400,000 times.
It’s been a wild few weeks for the 22-year-old Cavinder sisters, who were two of the most widely talked about figures of the tournament.
Last month, Haley helped the No. 9 seed Hurricanes close in on a stunning upset over the top-seeded Indiana Hoosiers.
She also put a finger to her lips to silence the crowd as Miami advanced to the Sweet 16.
“We have nothing to prove, because we are already approved,” the Cavinder sisters posted on their joint Instagram account at the time.
Although their journey ended before the Final Four, the Cavinders left the tournament with lasting memories and the support of their fans.
“Thank you all so much for the support this season,” the sisters posted on TikTok.
Considered two of the highest-paid college athletes, the Cavinder twins have earned an estimated seven figures in endorsement deals following the NCAA rule change in 2021, which enabled student-athletes to profit off of their name, image, and likeness.
Haley and Hanna also boast a whopping 4.5 million TikTok followers.
As for potential next steps, although Haley has pondered a return to the court, Hanna appears unsure.
“[Hanna] might not want to play our fifth year, so that’s the only reason,” Haley said. “I just like to hoop so I was like I want to come back for a fifth year. But Hanna is more like, ‘I want to start my life’.”
The senior guards transferred from Fresno State to Miami in April 2022.
The Cavinder twins were embroiled in a controversy earlier this year when Miami’s women’s basketball program was sanctioned by the NCAA in the governing body’s first NIL infractions ruling.
The organisation determined that a meeting between the siblings and prominent Hurricanes booster John Ruiz, which took place at his Miami home with their parents, was in violation of recruiting rules.
Miami head coach Katie Meiser served a three-game suspension and the program itself was hit with minor penalties.
