“It’s been a difficult time for them,” a source close to the couple told The Post.
“While they both care for each other so much, they truly gave it their all and realise that they just come from two different worlds. They now understand they don’t have the time they thought to dedicate to this relationship.”
Simmons is in Brooklyn preparing for the upcoming NBA season, while Jama is based in the UK, where she is juggling a number of TV and modelling jobs.
“After many long nights and hours of heartfelt talks, they finally realised as much as they love each other, their non-stop careers and endless travel have made it incredibly impossible to make it work,” the source said.
“They had no idea the challenges they would face when handling all the logistics of making a life together in two countries,” the source continued, adding that the decision to end their engagement is “one of the hardest decisions of their lives”.
Both Simmons and Jama hope to remain in each other’s lives, as “there is a lot of love between them”, the source said.
Earlier this month, the couple appeared to shut down break-up rumours in separate tweets that did not directly address their relationship.
Simmons is focused on making his return to the court following back surgery in May. The Australian guard missed all of last season with the Sixers and Nets due to a back injury and mental health issues.
The Nets acquired Simmons in February from the Sixers in a blockbuster trade for James Harden.
Meanwhile, Jama is heading back to London to focus on her career, the source said.
Simmons and Jama, who kept their romance mostly private, were first linked in May 2021, when they attended Wimbledon together. They quietly got engaged over the holidays, according to reports.
