Barry Hall’s partner is more nervous than anyone ahead of his fight with Paul Gallen
Barry Hall’s partner might miss his fight against Paul Gallen because she’s that nervous, telling the world all about her recent toilet troubles.
Barry Hall isn’t one to flee from a challenge but a member of his inner sanctum already has a case of the runs.
The trash talk has ramped up ahead of the AFL great’s Code War boxing showdown with retired NRL star Paul Gallen in Melbourne on Friday night and Hall’s partner Lauren Brant is certainly feeling the strain.
She may not be stepping into the ring at Margaret Court Arena but Brant might be more nervous than either of the fighters, if her toilet habits are anything to go by.
The 30-year-old, a former member of children’s musical group Hi-5, took to Instagram the day before the bout to throw her support behind Hall, and apologised to her mum in the process for providing a little too much information about just what her nervous energy was doing to her bowels.
“I am not a fan of the boxing world. I’ve never liked it as a sport (although I’ve always respected the athletes’ skill), but there is just not enough glitter, happy music and smiling!!!” Brant wrote underneath a photo of her and Hall together.
“HOWEVER, when I commit to something, it’s 100% ... and I certainly committed to being a supportive partner to Baz through this journey. He is the one who’s done the intense training, dealt with the media & is getting in the ring.
“I’ve just done everything I’m able to in support of that! I will be (three poo emojis) myself come Friday night, like actually — I’ve already started with the nervous (toilet emoji) visits (very sorry if that’s too much info, Mum).
“BUT, seriously – this shiznik is INTENSE. Look Barry is a bloody machine. Hear it from me! He seriously should be a marvel character cause he has muscles where I didn’t even know muscles grew and so much power!
“But, it’s a big deal to watch the father of your children and the person you love the most FIGHT! Like... Naaaaah mate. Not cool.”
The bad blood between Gallen and Hall was evident at Wednesday’s press conference as the 2005 AFL premiership winner decided he’d had enough of his rival’s “bull****”. So too has Brant.
“If I was as big a d***head as Paul Gallen he probably would be,” Brant told The Daily Telegraph when asked if she’d ever seen her man as angry as he was after Gallen sprayed him at the media conference.
“He (Gallen) sure is a unique opponent. I guess he’s trying to get publicity.”
Gallen was the antagonist on Wednesday, questioning Hall’s power, the level of opposition he was facing in sparring and his intelligence.
“Friday night he won’t be able to stop me,” Gallen said. “He knows his punches won’t hurt me … deep down he knows it.”
Hall responded by listing the excuses Gallen was making — including his objection to the bout being fought at two-minute rounds instead of the traditional three minutes.
“All these little excuses he’s been coming out with, I would just say there’s a little seed of doubt there in his mind,” Hall said.
“That if he loses to somebody who’s 42-years of age in their pro debut, where does that leave him? I think he’s looking for excuses in case he does lose.
“He’s looking for excuses now that he can fall back on. From my point of view, mentally, that’s a weakness.”
Gallen responded with a tongue lashing.
“I’ve already said I’ve got no excuses,” Gallen said. “I know you’re not the smartest or the sharpest tool in the shed. Maybe you’re deaf too.”
Hall started to lose his patience at this point. “Shut up mate, I’m sick of hearing your voice,” he said. “I’m sick of your bulls***.”
