Ash Barty reportedly sells four-bedroom house to her physical trainer
Ash Barty reportedly sold a Brisbane property she bought six years ago to a key member of her team after winning the Australian Open.
Ash Barty reportedly sold property to a team member in the lead-up to her shock retirement from professional tennis.
Barty announced this week she was walking away from the sport aged 25, less than two months after winning the Australian Open.
The Courier Mail reports ownership of a house the Queenslander bought in Brisbane six years ago was transferred to physical performance coach Matt Hayes just days after her triumph at Melbourne Park in January.
The report cites CoreLogic records showing plans for the sale were advanced months before what turned out to be Barty’s final appearance at a major. She reportedly sold the four-bedroom, two-bathroom house to Hayes for $520,00, with a three-month settlement period.
The property is in Greater Springfield, in Brisbane’s west, where Barty grew up. She owns another house in the area and her parents also live there.
In 2020 Barty was named an ambassador for the Greater Springfield Community.
“I’m particularly proud of this new partnership because of my long history and strong connection with Greater Springfield, which remains very close to my heart,” she said at the time.
As a proud Indigenous woman, she was “very excited” about Greater Springfield being home to the Hymba Yumba School.
“I’m hoping I can combine my new role, as well as being the National Indigenous Tennis Ambassador for Tennis Australia, to make meaningful and direct connections with the community including local Indigenous students, and get them playing and enjoying tennis,” she said.
The tennis icon will enjoy her retirement from a luxurious multimillion-dollar mega mansion after purchasing a block of land last year for $882,000 in the exclusive community of Brookwater, a suburb of Ipswich’s Greater Springfield Development.
The community is also home to the Greg Norman-designed Brookwater Golf Course, which was where Barty reportedly met her fiance Garry Kissick, who is a budding golf pro.
Since Barty purchased the land, the couple have been working on the build of their “forever home”, which the three-time major winner said had been an involved process.
In a video from Brookwater Residential, Barty revealed she had been working with one of the company’s in-house architects, making sure her home prioritised outside space and indoor/outdoor living.
She also explained that she couldn’t imagine herself living anywhere else, having grown up in the area.
