Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf’s kids are all grown up
It’s not easy when your parents are two of the biggest tennis stars of all time — but Andre Agassi says he’s just an ordinary person.
It’s not easy having famous parents but Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf say they’re just ordinary people.
Andre is widely considered one of the greatest tennis stars of all time. He’s an eight-time major winner and Olympic champion.
His superstar wife Steffi won all four major singles titles — as well as the Olympic gold medal in a calendar year — achieving the Golden Slam.
She’s also been inducted in the Tennis Hall of Fame. Together, the couple have won an incredible 30 Grand Slams.
The couple married in October 2001 and are parents to Jaden Gil Agassi, 22, and Jaz Elle Agassi, 20.
Their achievements have made them famous worldwide, and Andre says he understands why the public expect that his children would have had a moment of revelation — that their parents are a big deal.
But he says that moment never happened.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Andre said: “So when people are coming up to us in grocery stores, [Jaden and Jaz] were like, ‘What’s up with these people?’ So you go through a whole phase of them going, ‘Well, this makes no sense that the people are coming up as if there’s a big deal. And then they start to put together why it’s a big deal,” he said.
The tennis star continued that his children understand that fame and the reality of life are two very different things.
“[People] start to realise they’re looking behind the Wizard of Oz curtain and they realise it’s not all that.
“So there’s a healthy balance that kind of is inevitable through the whole process.”
Meanwhile, Jaden and Jaz are starting to branch out on their own.
Jaden has a budding baseball career and regularly posts updates on social media. He recently made the Pac-12 All-Conference baseball team.
He’s also hitting relationship goals, writing on Instagram: “One amazing year with the love of my life. Looking forward to so many more to come!”
Jaz also has the sporting genes. She’s a shown off her skills in fashion and dancing — and golf. However recently, she’s become a bit more circumspect about her digital footprint, deleting all her Instagram posts except for one featuring her gazing across a snowdrift landscape.
Despite that, she has more than 18,000 people following her moves on social media.
