The Wallabies will look to add another player to their World Cup squad in France after teenage winger Max Jorgensen broke his leg at training, ending his tournament.

Jorgensen, 19, the youngest member of the 33-man Australian squad, suffered the injury during an intense practice session at the team’s training base outside of St Etienne.

He was immediately sent for scans that confirmed he had fractured his fibula. Jorgensen will return to Australia, with a replacement player set to join the squad.

“Firstly, we’re all feeling for Max,” Wallabies head coach Eddie Jones said.

“He’s a good young man who has a massive future ahead of him in the gold jersey.

“He’s worked really hard to come back from a serious knee injury and was training exceptionally well to put his hand up for selection.

“We wish him a speedy and successful recovery and look forward to seeing him out on the field as soon as possible.”

Jorgensen hadn’t played in France in Australia’s two matches against Georgia and Fiji and wasn’t likely to be chosen for Sunday’s must-win clash with Wales.

Jones can choose any replacement he likes so does not have to call up another backline player, but that player won’t be able to play in the clash with Wales.

Having been urged to find a back-up for young five-eighth Carter Gordon, Jones could send an SOS for another No.10.

Wallabies captain Will Skelton and star prop Taniela Tupou are also both injured and expected to miss the final two pool games and could be areas Jones looks to replenish his stocks.
