Returning Queensland No.8 Harry Wilson has promised the sliding Reds “will be ready” to make amends for their recent poor form come the Super Rugby Pacific quarter-finals.

Having started the season with seven wins from eight matches, the Reds have lost four successive games – all against New Zealand opposition – ahead of Friday night’s clash against Moana Pasifika at Suncorp Stadium.

The Reds have dropped to seventh on the ladder but have already sealed a top-eight finals berth in the 12-team competition.

However, signs seem grim, with Reds skipper Tate McDermott admitting after a 53-26 weekend away loss to the Blues that the “belief and trust” among the Queensland players had been lost.

Despite McDermott’s concerns, Wilson – who is set to return on Friday night after missing the trip to Auckland due a head knock he suffered a week earlier – said the Reds were in a “pretty good headspace”.

“We’re on a bit of a losing streak, but we showed some good improvement over the last few weeks,” Wilson said.

“We’ve got to get a win this weekend ... and get better each week and I’m sure that’s going to happen.

“Wins and losses don’t really matter once you get to the quarter-finals, it’s about winning the big games there.

“I’m sure by quarter-final time we will be ready.”

Wilson isn’t the only key back-rower expected to return this week, with flanker Fraser McReight set to also be available after recovering from the flu.

The Reds will on Friday night don their 2022 Indigenous jersey for the Queensland Rugby Union’s annual Indigenous round.

QRU Indigenous Program ambassador and Reds forward Connor Vest said: “It’s a great honour to wear this jersey and represent Indigenous people around the state.”
