Brandon Paenga-Amosa set to make Wallabies comeback three years after his most recent appearance for Australia
Having not played for the Wallabies since 2021, a former Queensland Reds forward is finally set to add to his 14 Test appearances.
Hooker Brandon Paenga-Amosa is poised to make his first Test appearance since 2021 after being named in a 35-man Wallabies squad for a two-match tour of Argentina.
Paenga-Amosa, 28, hasn’t represented Australia since leaving the Queensland Reds three years ago to join French club Montpellier.
However, having started a long-term deal in June with Western Force, Paenga-Amosa has been given a chance by Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt to add to his 14 Test appearances.
However, the Wallabies have lost bustling centre Hunter Paisami, who injured his knee in Australia’s 30-12 weekend loss to South Africa in Perth.
Uncapped ACT Brumbies-bound David Feliuai has replaced Paisami in the squad.
Other uncapped players in the squad are new Queensland Reds lock Josh Canham, Brumbies winger Corey Toole and Force centre Hamish Stewart.
“It’s been a challenging couple of weeks but as a coaching group we are keen to continue trying to help a mostly consistent group go forward,’ Schmidt said.
“The Pumas have a talented and robust squad, which, along with the travel, will require further improvement from our squad.”
Apart from Paisami, others injured and still unavailable for selection include back-rowers Fraser McReight and Liam Wright, hooker David Porecki.and winger Filipo Daugunu.
The Wallabies leave for Argentina on Friday, with their two Rugby Championship clashes against the Pumas on September 1 (AEST) and September 8 (AEST) at La Plata and Santa Fe respectively.
