Phillip Island to be packed out for Casey Stoner farewell

CASEY Stoner's final fling at Phillip Island for the Australian MotoGP has sparked a record-breaking surge in ticket sales.

CASEY Stoner's final fling at Phillip Island has sparked a record-breaking surge in ticket sales.

General admission ticket sales for the Australian MotoGP are five times higher than at the same time last year.

Grandstand seat sales have doubled, and demand for trackside and camping ground tickets has risen 300 per cent.

"We have seen phenomenal growth this year and could be looking at the biggest MotoGP event ever at Phillip Island," Grand Prix Corporation chief Andrew Westacott said.

He said the Doohan, Stoner and Lukey Heights grandstands had sold out and would be extended to accommodate more fans.

The GP Corporation will also introduce new ticket and transport options for travel to the island and has expanded the camping ground's capacity.

The Three Corner Grandstand ticket will offer fans the chance to experience three different locations over three days.

Stoner, 26, said in May he would retire at the end of this season, increasing speculation that he would drive a V8 Supercar in Australia next year, following the footsteps of another two-wheel convert, Wayne Gardner.
