Past and present Australian basketball players have blasted the look of the uniforms that were revealed for the Paris Olympics.

Boomers too good for South Korea in Asia Cup Qualifier

The Australian basketball uniforms for the Paris Olympics have not been well received.

Images of the outfits were posted to social media on Wednesday with the Asics-designed kits quickly coming under heavy fire.

The design showed a rather basic yellow singlet with Australia written across the chest with an Asics logo on one shoulder and the coat of arms on the other.

Players and fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing with many blasting the designers over the jersey, which was first revealed by Pick and Roll.

Basketball player manager Daniel Moldovan unleashed as he torched the uniforms and whoever green lit the design.

“Let’s just call a spade a spade - yet another embarrassment for a team full of NBA players at the peak of their sport,” said Moldovan, who manages Boomers stars Josh Giddey, Dyson Daniels and Xavier Cooks.

“Our guys are going to be dressed like marathon runners. If the old adage of “Look good feel good” has a modicum of truth to it, then our guys are going to be feeling like trash.

“We are an international laughing stock. Whoever green lit these marathon runner uniforms for the Boomers and should have their citizenship revoked.

His outrage was backed up by past and present Boomers players who weren’t happy with what they were set to wear in Paris.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Josh Giddey commented “lol absolute joke” in reference to the uniforms, Houston Rockets centre Jock Landale said: “Looks like we are off to throw a javelin.”

Former Boomers star Andrew Bogut said that the AOC “had Stevie Wonder do the uniforms”.

Basketball fans joined in the outrage as they blasted the look the players will be set to wear when chasing Olympic glory.

NBA Australia’s Benyam Kidane wrote: “Nah this disrespectful. Boomers gonna bring home the gold in the decathlon.”

The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie wrote: “Pumped to see the Australian basketball team compete in the high jump at the Olympics. Probably not the optimal use of their skill and I think I’d take Anthony Edwards over any of them, but will be fun to see them don these track-and-field-ass uniforms for the right purpose.”

NBA Straya wrote: “Great to see we’re following in a hallowed Aussie tradition and getting Bali knockoff jerseys for the national team.”

Another user added: “Is April fools day a different day? These can’t be real!!”

The ASICS website states the design incorporates both Indigenous Australian artwork and Japanese design features, with the jerseys made from recycled fabrics.

“The TEAM AUSTRALIA OLYMPIC REPLICA BASKETBALL SINGLET features the Japanese CJ-line and Japanese Yagasuri print on the main body,” the site reads.

“Accompanying ‘Walking together” indigenous artwork by PAUL FLEMING along the side panels as well as ‘Ngalmun Danalaig (Our Way of Life)’ artwork by DAVID BOSUN at centre back.”

The Boomers will kick off their Paris Olympics campaign on July 27 with the team playing warm up matches against Japan, China, Serbia, and USA ahead of the games.
