Australia equalled its most successful Olympic day ever on day five, raking in seven medals including three gold.

You can follow our live coverage of day six here.

In rowing, our Women's Four and Men's Four teams both won gold, although the latter wasn't without drama, and Ariarne Titmus followed up her unforgettable triumph in the 400m freestyle with the 200m freestyle title too. We also had four bronze medals with our Men's 4x200m freestyle relay team, our Women's and Men's Quadruple Sculls teams and Rohan Dennis in the road cycling time trial all standing on the podium.

The Boomers, Hockeyroos and Kookaburras claimed another win each, but it was curtains for the Olyroos who were knocked out by Egypt's 'right hand of God'.

Thanks for watching an incredible day of Olympic action with us and we're already looking forward to continuing the medal rush on Thursday.

Egypt have left the Olyroos devastated after the side was knocked out of the Olympics in a 2-0 defeat.

Egypt scored just before halftime – the team's first goal of the tournament – when Ramadan Sobhi outpaced Harry Souttar to the bouncing ball before nutmegging him and passing Ahmed Rayan to slot the easiest of goals and make it 1-0.

The Olyroos spent the second half putting all the pressure on the Pharaohs' goal but could not crack them.

Socceroos star Daniel Arzani was brought on at halftime and proved a handful as the Olyroos got plenty of shots on target.

But there was no way past Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Elshenawy, who did everything possible to keep the Olyroos out with key saves frustrating the Aussies as they pushed for an equaliser.

A draw would be enough for Australia but the Egyptians were resolute.

"So far it's the right-hand of God," Andy Harper said of Elshenawy.

And the Egyptians broke Australian hearts when substitute Ammar Hamdy scored the winner.

While there was still time on the clock, the Olyroos couldn't get on the board.

After raising hopes with a shock win against Argentina to start the Games, Aussie football fans were devastated by the latest loss.

Emma McKeon just broke the Olympic record like it was nothing.
Emma McKeon just broke the Olympic record like it was nothing.

Emma McKeon has cruised through the 100m freestyle heats, cruising into the wall.

But incredibly, she's smashed the Olympic record.

"That was probably the easiest Olympic record I've seen," Leisel Jones said in commentary. "She's not even puffing. Look at that. Not even sucking any oxygen at all. That was super cruisy and the fastest time. She's put the world on notice."

McKeon said she'd had a day off and was feeling good.

"Yeah, I'm pretty happy with that. An Olympic record is pretty cool. But I guess I had like yesterday off an this morning off, so I think it freshened me up a bit.

"Yeah, well usually I will have the 200, so to have that off at 600m of less racing, so I think that definitely helped me leading into this."

McKeon was fastest with Cate Campbell fourth fastest heading into the semi-finals.

McKeon had an incredible 4x100m freestyle final swim, the fastest in the world record swim for Australia.

She's in good form Emma!

Matisse Thybulle is coming up huge for the Boomers.
Matisse Thybulle is coming up huge for the Boomers.

The Boomers have won again with an 86-83 win over Italy but Aussie fans have been blown away by Mattisse Thybulle.

A teammate of Ben Simmons with Philadelphia, the NBA star has more than made up for his countryman's absence from the games.

In a dogfight against Italy in his first tournament with the Boomers, Matisse Thybulle is coming up huge, and fitting in with the team that has been together for a long time.

At halftime, the Italians led 45-44 but Thybulle wasn't done impressing with his performance.

Although Thybulle only added two points to his five first half points, his four assists, three rebounds, a steal and a block sparked the Boomers.

Boomers legend Andrew Bogut was happy with what he saw as well from Thybulle, saying "I'm calling it now, Matisse Thybulle will have an NBA defensive player of the year award before his career is over".

When Andrew Gaze said it wasn't his bravest call, Bogut said: "Maybe two-time… He is just phenomenal. Fundamentally sound, length, athleticism, just causes an absolute problem out there."

And social media is loving what it's seeing from our newest star.

Australia was led by 18 points from Jock Landale, 16 for Patty Mills, 15 for Nic Kay and 14 each for Joe Ingles and Aron Baynes in another team victory.

Got to feel for Nicholson.
Got to feel for Nicholson.

Aussie boxer Skye Nicholson is out in the quarterfinals of the women's featherweight division after losing a razor thin 3:2 split decision to Great Britain's Karriss Artingstall.
There was nothing between the fighters as it went to the decision with the GB fighter winning three judges 29-28, while Nicholson had a 29-28 and a 30-27.
Nicholson was visibly devastated, slumping to the ground and appearing inconsolable.

Speaking afterwards, the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist was on the verge of tears.

"Just disappointment, it's pretty hard to put into words right now," she said.

Skye Nicholson went out in the quarterfinals in the most brutal way possible.

Asked about her performance making her the most successful women's Olympic boxer we've ever had, Nicholson said it gave her no comfort.

"It means nothing to me, I don't care about that, I care about what I'm capable of," she said. "And not achieving it is really heartbreaking. I came here with one goal and that was the gold medal and I truly believed I was going to win it so to go out now is really really hard for me."

Asked what's next, Nicholson said: "It's definitely not the end but I just need to take some time and see what happens next."

As for any words for her family: "Sorry I didn't get the job done, thank you everyone, the support has been absolutely unbelievable, my very close circle especially. My family, my friends, my coaches – thank you for the support and I'll be back bigger, better and stronger next time."

Australia's fourth bronze and seventh medal of the day.
Australia's fourth bronze and seventh medal of the day.

Rohan Dennis has claimed bronze for Australia with the two-time world champ pipping the current world champ Filipo Ganna by just over a second.

It was an insane finish with four seconds between second and fifth with Dennis securing third.

Insanely, Slovenian Primoz Roglic won by more than 61 seconds – shedding the demons that cost him a Tour de France in the time trial last year.

The Netherlands' Tom Dumoulin on the comeback trail to cycling secured second in a brilliant ride.

It continues a brilliant day for Australia with three golds and now four bronze medals.

The three golds equals our best ever day in the Olympics, while the seven overall medals is just shy of our best ever day of nine medals.

The second lap has seen all sorts of issues.

Dutch rider Tom Dumoulin appeared to throw a gel pack from his clothes, which commentator Phil Liggett said "is a disqualification" in the UCI regulations.

Other riders were drafting, which is a no-no in the time trial.

This could be interesting – I mean losing a medal for littering would be the most brutal of losses.

Simone Biles has shocked the world all over again.
Simone Biles has shocked the world all over again.

Simone Biles has pulled out of the women's individual all around event, just hours after she pulled out of the team gymnastics final on Tuesday night.

The women's all around event requires all competitors to compete in vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor, while she could still compete in the individual events starting Sunday.

USA Gymnastics posted a statement to Twitter saying: "After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health. Simone will continues to be evaluated daily to determine whether or not to participate in next week's individual event finals. Jade Carey, who had the ninth highest score in qualifications, will participate in her place in the all around.

"We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many."

The world was left shocked on Tuesday when Biles only attempted one pass on the vault before pulling out of the event, with USA Gymnastics citing "a medical issue".

But her coach and then later Biles herself revealed that she was struggling emotionally.

“Physically I feel good, I’m in shape,” she told American broadcaster NBC. “Emotionally … that kind of varies on the time and the moment.
“Coming here to the Olympics and being the head star of the Olympics is not an easy feat so we’re just trying to take it one day at a time and we’ll see.”

Biles is arguably the greatest gymnast of all time but has the weight of the world on her shoulders with most people believing her pursuit of a record gold medal haul was little more of a formality.

The news has shocked the world and while there are always people trolling for a reaction, most of the reaction has been about Biles' bravery to step back and make sure she's okay.

Barty and Sanders out

There's more disappointment for Ash Barty, as she and her partner Storm Sanders are knocked out of the women's doubles.

The top seeds Czech Republic's Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova were too strong – they won 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

They will go through to the semis.

Barty still has the mixed doubles to come taking the court with John Peers later today.

Tie break in final set

It's coming down to the wire for Barty and Sanders – with the final set coming down to a tie break.
