Ian Thorpe’s former partner Ryan Channing farewelled at private Perth funeral
The Olympian’s former partner has been remembered by loved ones at a private funeral today.
A funeral for Ian Thorpe’s former long-term boyfriend, Ryan Channing, has been held in Perth following his shock death in Bali last month.
The skincare boss and model, 32, was remembered at a private service held at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park on Friday morning.
Friends and family turned out in droves to farewell Mr Channing, who previously dated the Olympic swimmer, as the celebration of his life continued at Joondalup members golf club in Connolly.
Channing’s Instagram page’s admin posted days ago, alerting mourners of the service.
“We would love all that knew him to help us celebrate his life. Everyone who knew him and knew of him through others,” the post read.
Thousands of people commented, saying the model would be missed.
“May you Rest In Peace Ryan. You were taken way too soon gorgeous man,” one user said.
“Such an amazing human xxx Ryan May you RIP,” a second wrote.
“I still can't believe he passed :(,” another commented.
Mr Channing was holidaying with family in Bali when he fainted in a villa on May 6.
He was rushed to the BIMC Hospital in Kuta where he was reportedly being treated for an “overdose of prescription medication” but died two days later.
His death was not treated as suspicious by police.
Following his death, tributes continued to flow for Mr Channing, including those of Thorpe.
“This is a relationship that I had that was a long-term relationship and I feel for Ryan’s family,” the swimmer told The Daily Telegraph.
“I hope people are able to respect their privacy as well. I think when it is someone that is so young, it is tragic for anyone to see them passing at that kind of age.”
The couple first started dating in 2015 but split in June, 2019.
