Cody Simpson has bared his soul in an emotional message for partner Emma McKeon, celebrating their one-year anniversary.

The Aussie power couple have marked 12 months together with their whirlwind romance blossoming despite the scrutiny they face faced.

The singer-turned-swimmer on Monday shared a heartwarming message for the 28-year-old, who is certain to go down in history as one of the greatest athletes Australia has ever produced.

Simpson shared an artistic photo with his five million Instagram followers, showing McKeon looking out a window as light streams into a dark room.

“I look at her and light goes all through me,” the post began.

“One year with you. Since I met you I’ve felt as though I’ve been living in perpetual sunlight. I like the sun because you can’t buy it, grasp it or possess it.

“You can only appreciate it when it’s there, feel it all over and let it make its way within.

“Love is quite the same.

“I love you, Emma McKeon.”

The couple first went public with their relationship in June, showing they kept their relationship secret for more than two months.

McKeon was the star of the Australian Tokyo Olympic team, coming away with seven medals, including four golds.

Adding her four medals from Rio, McKeon became the most decorated Olympian in Australian history with a tally of five golds, two silvers and four bronze.

The Olympic champion and pop star dominated the headlines both in and out of the pool at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year, mainly due to a rumoured love triangle with fellow Australian swimmer Kyle Chalmers.

McKeon picked up six gold medals, while Simpson created history of his own by winning gold as a relay heat swimmer and finishing fifth in the men’s 100m butterfly final.

Simpson has spoken repeatedly about his dream of competing at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The happy couple were profiled on Channel 7’s Spotlight in July, where they were happy to speak about their love life.

Simpson — who said he “wooed” McKeon with his singing — admitted he had a crush on the McKeon for some time before acting on his feelings.

“You know, when you meet someone, you just recognise that there’s something there. I always saw her as this special person to me. Like overall, pretty inspiring human,” Simpson told Seven’s Denham Hitchcock.

“There’s something there that we didn’t obviously explore then.

“I always acknowledged that there was a connection that we had. But we didn’t act on it until what ended up being a year later.

“We talk every day about how happy we are and how lucky we are. I think we definitely appreciate it.

“Whenever I’m playing (music), she’ll just drop whatever she’s doing and watch and listen. She doesn’t have to do that, but I like that. You always pay attention. It’s nice.”

McKeon said she “likes listening to him play” music, adding: “I feel like we’re best friends, which to me is so important. I’m close with my family, that is important to me, as well, so we just have a lot in common.’

“We’re loving where we’re at at the moment. And we have fun together. We just love each other’s company.”
