Cody Simpson confirms official end date of his swimming career
Cody Simpson has put an end to the constant swirling speculation surrounding his career in the pool with one post on social media.
The end date for Cody Simpson’s swimming career has been locked in.
He stunned the world in 2020 when he revealed he was putting his music career on hold to return to swimming, a sport he had excelled at as a child, including winning an Australian title as a 13-year-old.
Within five months of returning to training, he qualified for the Olympic trials in 2021, but didn’t make the team although remarkably, he did make the 100m butterfly final.

He has since competed on the world stage at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022 where he claimed gold and silver as part of the 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays after he swam heats for Australia.
But while his achievements in the pool have tallied up, Simpson has previously hinted the Paris Olympics would be the end of his time in the pool.
He confirmed the 2024 Games will officially mark the end of his time in the lanes.
“I’ve been doing this every day for over three years now,” Simpson wrote on Instagram. “There are only eight months left in my swimming journey which I believe calls for more content and updates on the path.
“Training is going well. I give whatever I have to give everyday. Learning a lot about myself. Loving feeling this healthy.”
Simpson claimed his first international medal, finishing in a dead-heat for second in the 100m butterfly at the World Cup event in Athens.
Simpson finished in 51.92, a tenth of a second shy of South Africa’s Matthew Sates to claim his first silverware in an international event.
It was a strong effort from Simpson, with the time just 0.14 outside his lifetime PB had and he posted it was his “fastest unshaved/unrested 100m butterfly of my career.”
“Cool night racing some incredible fellas,” he wrote. “Garnering experience on the international stage and my first time on a podium.
“Finding some flow and was able to hit my fastest unshaved/unrested 100m butterfly of my career so far, only a few tenths off of my best. I am radically and unreservedly grateful for this journey.”
Simpson has also taken out two national championships, winning the Australian 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle at the short course titles.
Simpson’s main events are the 50m and 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle events.
For the record, the men’s qualifying times for the Paris Games in the 100m free is 48.34 and 100m butterfly is 51.67. The 50m butterfly is not an Olympic event.

Simpson celebrated his performances in his Instagram Stories on Wednesday, posting: “Went down to Sydney last week to race during my training season,” he wrote.
“Was stoked to be relatively near personal best times while under training fatigue. Thought I’d share videos for my American mates who always wonder what the hell I’m doing.”
