Cody Simpson has his own fan moment with Aussie Rio medallist

CODY Simpson has a global teen fan base and 3.1 million Instagram followers. But the Aussie singer had his own fan moment when he met one of Australia’s Rio gold medallists.

WITH his global teen fan base and 3.1 million Instagram followers, Australian singer Cody Simpson is used to being the centre of attention.

But on a flying visit to The Edge, the Australian team’s official chill-out zone, the 19-year-old had his own fan moment when he met our shooting gold medallist Catherine Skinner.

Simpson happily posed with Skinner and told her she was a true legend.

And while she was happy for a chat, Skinner was a little bemused afterwards, saying: “To be honest I hadn’t really heard of him before now, but he seems like a good bloke”.

Simpson, 19, has built a huge social media presence after moving from Queensland to build a music career in Los Angeles.

He also dated model Gigi Hadid for two years.

He’s travelling with his family, and he and singer sister Alli’s 10-day Rio tour has seen them carry the Olympic flame for sponsor Coke and take in some beach volleyball action.

But for Simpson, the highlight so far was watching old friend Cameron McEvoy fight back to take bronze in the men’s 4x100m relay.

“Cam swam so well, they were coming sixth or seventh and he brought it up to bronze,” Simpson said.

“Cam and I kind of grew up together on the Gold Coast and our families are really close. I used to swim competitively a little bit when I was younger and we used to train together.

“It’s just unreal to see him come this far and to have some mates on the team has made me even more proud and patriotic.”
