Kookaburras suffer shocking 1-0 loss to Spain

GOLD medal favourites Australia have been on the receiving end of the biggest upset of the men’s hockey tournament, falling to Spain 1-0.

GOLD medal favourites Australia have been on the receiving end of the biggest upset of the men’s hockey tournament, falling to Spain 1-0.

The Kookaburras fell behind six minutes into the opening quarter and that was the only score of the match with Spain’s very defensive tactics frustrating the world’s No.1 team.

Spain came into the Olympic tournament ranked No.11 and weren’t expected to trouble the Aussies but their aggressive tactics rattled the favourites.

The Kookaburras had been lucky to get out of jail in their opening game with a goal reversal seeing them defeat New Zealand 2-1.
