Covid shock in Australia’s preparation for the Winter Olympics

An Australian Olympic team member has tested positive after landing in Beijing ahead of the Winter Olympics.

Beijing introduces new COVID-19 measures

A member of the Australian Winter Olympic team has returned a positive Covid-19 test after touching down in Beijing.

The Australian Olympic team on Sunday confirmed the team member had tested positive at Beijing Airport.

Officials did not name the team member or which sport they were competing in.

“The Team member is now isolating while awaiting a second test,” the Australian Olympic Committee said in a statement.

“The AOC is respecting the privacy of the individual.

“An update will be provided once further testing has been conducted and the situation becomes clearer, with the ongoing process determined by the outcome of the testing.”

The Winter Olympics officially begin with the opening ceremony on Friday however competition kicks off two days earlier with the Luge and Curling.
