Brazilian identical twins Bia and Branca Feres as famous for their social media posts as sporting skills

BIA and Branca Feres are turning heads in Rio’s Olympic pool but maybe more due to their identical, and public, boob jobs than their sporting skills.

THEY’RE the Olympic comeback twins turning heads in Rio — and it’s not just for their skills in the pool.

Brazilian sisters Bia and Branca Feres may not be top of the table when it comes to their chosen sport of synchronised swimming but they are top of the podium in the social media stakes with a cool 416,000 followers on Instagram.

Their popularity may have something to do with the fact they went very public about their identical breast enlargement operations.

The identical twins took to the pool on Thursday as part of Brazil’s synchronised swimming team helping them to finish sixth in the technical category. They will compete again on Saturday, against Australia, in the free routine category.

But the sisters, born in 1988, almost didn’t make it to the Games having missed out on the Olympics twice in a row.

The one time actors and TV hosts had dreams of representing Brazil in Beijing in 2008 but these were dashed when they failed to make the team.

Bia and Branca continued in the pool but were increasingly in demand for modelling and media gigs. Then in 2011, just a year before the London Games, they dropped out the sport for a very big reason — so they could both get boob jobs.

It may have been coincidence of course, but following the breast enhancement procedures, the twins started landing some serious coin to represent some major brands — from Adidas to Samsung and Trident gum.

The commercial sponsorships were helped by an Instagram account followed by almost half a million fans. The pair post pictures of their athletic triumphs and teammates alongside shots of the two relaxing at home often wrapped around one another (probably tired after a long day training) and even at the beach — sometimes with matching fins.

On social media, the pair, who post jointly on Instagram, wrote, “One day I was asked at school what I wanted to be when I grow up, I said, I want to be mermaid.”

Despite their non-sporting success, the Feres’ attention did eventually turn back to the pool with Bia and Branca successfully making it into the team to represent their country on home turf in Rio.

According to Adidas, the twins had a gruelling schedule ahead of yesterday’s Olympic event training eight hours a day, six days a week combining swimming with weight training and choreography.

But if the Olympic dream does die in the Rio pool Bia and Branca can comfort themselves with the fact they will undoubtedly turbocharge their media profile and perhaps gain a few thousand more Instagram followers.

On Thursday they thanked their fans for caring and hinted they weren’t done yet writing “tomorrow has more!”
