AFTER announcing the last of Australia’s 410 Olympians going to Rio, team boss Kitty Chiller admits they face a tough task to fulfil their aim of a top-five finish on the medal table.
But Chiller says she’s confident the team sports as well as the swimmers, sailors, rowers and track cyclists can help bring home the 15 or 16 gold medals likely to be needed to make the top five.
“That’s double the number of gold medals we won in London (2012). For any country to double the number of gold is a huge ask. I genuinely believe we can do it,” Chiller said after naming the men’s and women’s rugby sevens squads.
“We’ve expecting more medals in more sports. I am confident we can surpass London 2012.”
“We want a life’s best experience for all of our Olympic athletes. We have and will continue to work as One Team.
“It’s a young team with 42 per cent under 25. Largest female representation at a summer Games — 49.51 per cent.”
