Australian uniform for Rio 2016 Olympics revealed
REACTION is coming thick and fast to the preppy mint green and white outfits Aussie athletes will don during the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics.
AUSTRALIAN athletes are set to look mighty posh at the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics after their green and white striped blazers with white bottoms were this morning unveiled.
Olympics broadcaster the Seven Network had a sneak peek of the Sportscraft-designed uniforms, which were launched in Sydney at 8.30am on Wednesday.
“I think it has got that fun Rio feel to it but it has that vintage inspiration to it from the previous Olympics,” London Games silver medallist Jess Fox told Seven.
The names of Olympic champions are on the lining of the mint green blazers, which Fox said made it “really special”.
A striped gold accessory has also been chucked in, maintaining the green-and-gold tradition, in the form of a tie for men and scarf for women.
This is the seventh time local designer Sportscraft has been behind Australia’s Olympic uniforms.
Reaction to the preppy Ralph Lauren-esque look has been pouring in thick and fast on social media.
Australian Olympic uniform for Rio looks like cross between "Private School" and "Bananas in Pyjamas". We'll get used to it! #olympics2016

Don't mind the new Australian Olympic uniform if I do say so! A little bit corporate, a little bit party. https://t.co/rwBtT7hReS

One person questioned the uniform’s practicality.
Those are some very white shorts/skirts on the Aus Olympic uniform. So white. I would be guaranteed to spill food on them within minutes.

And some refused to pull their punches.
Is it written into our constitution that the aus Olympic uniform has to be ugly? https://t.co/wI0ZqN1pGJ
