Aussie teen Olympic sensation melts hearts with unthinkable act

Australia’s youngest-ever gold medallist has revealed the unthinkable act she did on the flight home with her fellow Olympians.

Australian skateboarding gold medallist Arisa Trew has melted hearts after revealing one simple act.

The 14-year-old sensation became Australia’s youngest-ever gold medallist after taking out the skateboard park final.

But she’s not letting the moment go to her head as she made an eye-opening reveal after she had returned to Australia.

The flight home for the Aussie Olympians comes with a pecking order as Sunrise host Matt Shirvington noted.

“Apparently, the breakdown is the medallists get first pick of business class, then the two-time Olympians or more get a shot at premium economy, and the rest are out the back of the plane,” Shirvington said.

While most people would fight tooth and nail to land a seat in business class on an international flight, Trew wanted no part of it.

On Nova’s Jase & Lauren radio show the youngster was asked about the flight home and where she ended up sitting.

“Where did you get to sit on the plane? Because you’re a gold medallist, you’re 14 years old. Were you right up the front?” Lauren Phillips asked Trew.

Trew replied: “I mean, I could have been sitting in business with all the medallists, but instead I chose to sit in economy with my two best friends, Chloe and Ruby.”

That’s right, Trew turned her back on business class and walked to the back of the plane to be with fellow skateboarders Chloe Covell and Ruby Trew.

The simple act left Phillips praising the gold medal sensation.

“You’re the cutest thing ever. We couldn’t love you anymore,” Phillips said.

“So Arisa, does that mean you got to give someone your gold medal business class seat?”

Trew: “I’m pretty sure somebody else got it because me and my friends were walking around the plane, and we went up there, and it was all full. So I definitely think somebody else was sitting there but I don’t mind.”

Despite her new found fame, Trew is aiming to keep things simple when she makes it home to the Gold Coast.

The teen is headed straight back to school and cannot wait to be rolling around her local park as soon as possible, hoping her achievement inspires her peers to take up the sport.

“For any of them, I just hope that they start skating even now. It doesn’t matter what age you are, just give it a go and have fun and just find a good group of people to do it with and just push yourself and never give up,” Trew said.

“I just love going to school because it’s the skate park where I go to school, so I get to see all my friends that skate, that I skate with every day and train with, my coaches, the teachers.

“Like, it’s just the best thing in the world.”
