The news sent the swimming world into a spin, with several past and present stars of the pool flooding the comments with congratulatory messages.
“Love you guys,” wrote Ariarne Titmus.
While fellow swimmer Lani Pallister said: “OMG this is so beautiful”.
Australian swimming great Grant Hackett also chipped in writing: “Wonderful news. Congratulations.”
Shayna Jack and Emma McKeon also congratulated the new Mr and Mrs McEvoy.
The news comes after McEvoy stunned the world in last year’s Paris Olympics with the 30-year-old winning gold in the men’s 50m freestyle.
The feat was all the more sweeter given the fact he took a break from the pool after the Tokyo Games.
But after shocking the world by claiming gold in the 50m freestyle in Paris, McEvoy paid tribute to his partner, Madeline, on live TV, speaking about how they work as a team and how she supported his dream of Olympic gold.
“The love is endless … it’s infinite,” McEvoy said of Madeline post-race.
And the news they are now married came as a surprise given the fact they had been engaged for less than two months.
Announcing their engagement in December, McEvoy wrote on X: “I’ve achieved some pretty big things this year but I think I just achieved my greatest one”.
“What a way to end 2024.”
And two months on the couple are now happily married.
