Australian Paralympian Vanessa Low has set Tokyo alight with a performance that left her husband an emotional mess as she made history.

'Sanity prevails': Equal pay for Paralympic gold medallists

Australian Vanessa Low just blew Tokyo away.

In little over an hour and just five jumps, the 31-year-old long-jump athlete smashed three world records in a mind-blowing performance at the Olympic Stadium.

Having already secured gold in the women’s Class 63 event, she broke her own previous records set earlier in the night with a final jump of 5.28m winning by 14cm from silver-medallist Martina Caironi of Italy.

Low previously competed under the German flag before becoming an Australian citizen through her marriage with Australian Paralympic sprinter Scott Reardon.

Reardon was able to watch on as Low defended her gold medal from Rio and became emotional at seeing her historic results.

“There’s no words actually. She’s competed at Worlds for Australia but to see her in Australian colours at the Paralympic Games and seeing her so calm and collected doing what she does best, I’m proud,” he told Channel 7.

He later told The Herald: “To see Vanessa out there in the green and gold was pretty special and to pull it together when it matters on the world stage is awesome.

“I’m a mess. I’ve never cried this much. It’s so special. I don’t have words.”

Low, a double above the knee amputee after being hit by a train when she was a teenager, climbed from a world record 5.16m jump on her second attempt, before reaching 5.20m in her fifth attempt. She went massive with her final jump of 5.28m.

“This is a very special one. I know Rio was my first gold but being able to do this experience alongside my husband and being able to do it on the day with Scott by my side, having a familiar face in the crowd, was so special and I am so very grateful for this opportunity,” Low told Channel 7.

Low already held the world record in the Class 61 category and added the world record in the Class 63 category with the two events being merged for the Tokyo Games.
