‘What planet is he on?’: Andrew Voss savages Matt Parish after shocking Samoan performance

If Matt Parish wasn’t feeling the heat before, he will now after the Samoan coach and his players were torn to shreds by Andrew Voss

Andrew Voss has ripped into coach Matt Parish and sensationally declared that he would send the Samoan side home after they were embarrassed 60-6 by England in the opening match of the Rugby League World Cup.

The insipid display from Samoa was even more surprising given they were favourites to knock off the hosts, but they played like reserve graders rather than a side boasting a stack of premiership Penrith players.

The loss heaps more pressure on Parish whose position has been questioned for years, with calls for Andrew and Matthew Johns to replace him.

Samoa should still qualify for the quarter-finals but they’ll struggle to go any further based on their performance against England that included conceding five tries in the final 12 minutes.

“The Samoan side, it was insipid,” Voss said on SEN radio.

“What have they been doing for the last week? Matt Parish, I don’t know what planet he lives on.

“He went into the game saying ‘we only had three training sessions’. He must have predicted something so that he could have had a little safety card.

“After the game he said ‘if we played the game in another 24 hours, it would be entirely different’. What planet is he on?

“The Samoan side, I’d be sending them home, I would send them home based on that performance.”
