England’s Rugby Football League says Zak Hardaker, one of the country’s top players, has been provisionally suspended after failing a doping test.

Hardaker, who played for Penrith in 2016, will not be considered for selection by England for the upcoming Rugby League World Cup. England will select its squad on Monday.

The RFL says the fullback, who plays for Castleford, tested positive for a banned substance following a Super League game against Leeds on Sept. 8.

The 25-year-old Hardaker was dropped by Castleford for the Super League’s Grand Final against Leeds on Saturday. Leeds, Hardaker’s former club, won 24-6.
