Ugly response to NRL icon James Tamou’s gender reveal
The NRL great and his wife posted a gender reveal for their growing family, sadly drawing some nasty responses on the platform.
Former Kangaroos and NSW Blues star James Tamou and his family have drawn a fierce response after posting a gender reveal video online.
Gender reveal parties have become commonplace in recent years, with families coming up with countless ways to discover the identity of their impending child, typically using blue or pink colours.

Tamou and wife Brittney already have four boys together and gathered outside a home to reveal the gender of their fifth child earlier this week.
Using a big black helium balloon with the words ‘Girl or boy?’ written on it, the family draws out the surprise, with the four boys clearly excited to find out if a baby brother or sister would be joining the fold.

After a final team huddle and a kiss on the forehead for Brittney, Tamou pops the balloon and a sea of blue confetti fills the air.
They all seem pretty excited, with the parents beaming big smiles and some of the kids running around picking up confetti, although what looks to be the youngest child needed an extra hug from mum.
Maybe he was hoping for a little sister, we’re not sure.
Brittney then triumphantly puts her right hand in the air showing all five fingers to demonstrate a fifth child is on the way.
There is one last team talk and a kiss between the married couple before the 90 second video ends.
It’s closing in on 25,000 likes and has well over 800 comments
Tamou, 36, played over 300 NRL games with the Cowboys, Panthers and Tigers, featuring in North Queensland’s 2015 premiership victory.
The New Zealand-born prop pledged his allegiance to Australia midway through his career, leading to 12 appearances for the Kangaroos and 14 for the Blues in a superb stretch from 2012-2016.
Tamou retired in 2023, although he continues to play at lower levels, and has over 17,000 followers on Instagram, while former athlete and bodybuilder wife Brittney has more than 26,000.
The vast majority of comments on their reveal video were positive.
“It’s so lovely to see the joy from those parents. Clearly a healthy baby is such a blessing whether another boy or a girl,” was one comment.
“Some mums are just meant to be boy mummas and that’s OK. Boys are such a blessing. Congratulations,” wrote another.
“Mum of boys … so special!!! I have 4!” said a third.
“She’s going to be the BEST boy mum and god is going to bless her with amazing daughter in laws and granddaughters,” offered another.
“Congratulations just 8 more boys and James has his very own rugby league team,” joked another.
Of course posting on social media, and having a big following, means you sadly open yourself up to criticism or unwelcome comments.
There were also a number of those, with many seemingly taking it upon themselves to deduce the couple was disappointed not to have a girl this time around.
Cindy Miller wrote: “You don’t need to fake it guys it’s clear you both are disappointed and wanted a girl and that’s OK. Your son is upset too maybe comfort him.”
Anna-lyn also declared: “Every mum wants at least one girl. The relationship is so different than a boy.
“I don’t mind if anyone disagrees but every mum with 4 boys secretly would love a daughter.
“From dance class to shopping to wedding dress shopping to mani/pedi day. Boys are wonderful but 1 girl hits different.”
“It’s OK to feel it. It doesn’t mean you will live (sic) your new wee boy any less.”
Another observed “I think one of your boys wanted a sister”, to which another replied “they all did”.
Some of those comments drew the strongest responses and sparked some intense debate.
Brittney herself replied to the Cindy Miller comment, writing “be nice” with a smiling face emoji.
Others didn’t take quite so kindly to the assumptions.
One wrote: “That is BS. Speak for yourself. Not every mother wants a girl. A son is a mother’s greatest blessing.”
Another said: “You really can’t speak for everyone! I have zero desire to have a girl – blessed with my boys.”
A third stated: “That’s not at all true! I never thought I was missing out with my boys – never gave it a thought – how funny to think any different.”
There were other slanging matches back and forth among those commenting, most of which wouldn’t have a clue what any of the family members were thinking.
It might’ve been slightly long for this writer’s taste, but the video was completely harmless and a sweet family moment.
Maybe one day the amateur shrinks and body language “experts” might keep their thoughts to themselves … but we doubt it.
