Newcastle Knights stars Starford To’a and Simi Sasagi have reportedly become the latest members of the NRL community to breach the league’s strict COVID-19 protocols.

As first revealed by Channel 9 journalist Danny Weidler, Knights CEO Phil Gardner reported the two players to Project Apolo after they allegedly attended a game, which goes against the NRL’s coronavirus rules.

“Two Knights players have been put on COVID hold,” Weidler tweeted on Sunday evening.

“Initial report is players attended a game. Described to me by club as ‘young players’.”

“The players claim they went to a game for ‘20 minutes’. Good to see Knights being proactive and reporting matter.”

Knights general manager Danny Buderus revealed the identity of the two players to Fox Sports reporter James Hooper.

“I don’t know the details of exactly what they done, but they’ll be in a COVID hold,” Hooper claimed on Fox League’s Big League Wrap.

Fox League presenter Yvonne Sampson pleaded: “Everyone just stay home, just stay in the bloody bubble.

“They’re dropping like flies at the moment.”

The Knights are yet to make an official statement on the matter, but the two players will most likely be made to isolate form the Newcastle squad for 14 days.

To’a has only played two NRL games for the Knights — including Saturday’s comprehensive victory over the Wests Tigers — while Sasagi is yet to make his first class debut.

South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett, St George Illawarra prop Paul Vaughan, Brisbane Broncos forward Tevita Pangai Jr and Broncos legend Allan Langer each breached the COVID-19 protocols this week.
