NRL's new speedster

Manly forward Toafofoa Sipley has been spotted attempting a pesky move on an opponent player, undoing Apisai Koroisau’s laces during a scrum at Carrington Park on Saturday afternoon.

As Koroisau linked with his fellow forwards, Sipley bent over and yanked at the hooker’s shoelaces.

The Panthers star hardly reacted to the incident, but the pair exchanged some words before the scrum commenced.

Koroisau and Sipley were Manly teammates for two seasons in 2018-19, so there was potentially no malice involved.

Sipley has played 20 NRL games for the Sea Eagles since joining the club following a two-year stint with the New Zealand Warriors.

The undefeated Panthers held a 10-point lead at halftime in Bathurst, with Dylan Edwards, Brian To’o Liam Martin diving over in the opening forty minutes.

However, fullback Tom Trbojevic kept Manly in the contest with a classy solo try in the 25th minute.

Sea Eagles captain Daly Cherry-Evans then scored early in the second half to reduce the margin to just four points.

But the Panthers continued to stay at arms length, scoring through Tyrone May, before Manly’s Jason Saab showed off his immense speed to run around the Panthers.

Penrith wrapped it up when Stephen Crichton scored after Martin dived over the dead ball line, scooping it back to his centre, wrapping up a 28-16 win.

For Manly, Des Hasler gave the side plenty to think about with a halftime explosion but it shows just how far they’ve come.
