Tigers head of football Tim Sheens has reportedly told the club he is willing to take over the vacant head coaching role for next season.

The merger club sacked Michael Maguire in June with Brett Kimmorley stepping in until a long-term replacement was finalised.

After failing to land Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo, club greats believe Sheens could be the man to return to the role a decade after he was sacked by the Tigers.

Now, according to the SMH, Tigers powerbrokers have approached Sheens to gauge his interest in taking over.

Sheens led the Tigers to a premiership in 2005 and now the club are considering offering him the head coaching role for the 2023 season.

The 71-year-old would be a short-term option, with Tigers bosses hoping the experienced rugby league maestro can mentor a group of assistant coaches.

One would then graduate to take over when he finishes his tenure, with the club expressing their desire to sign a development coach.

Foxsports.com.au also understands reserve grade coach Wayne Lambkin has also put his name forward to take over after working his way through the coaching ranks.

Lambkin also revealed Sheens was a huge factor in his decision to throw his hat in the ring.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are also looking at signing out of favour Eels forward Nathan Brown.

The 29-year-old made a first grade return in Round 17 after a stint in reserve grade, but has been given permission to speak to rival clubs regarding an immediate release.

Brown is currently contracted until the end of the 2023 season and was granted a release from management company Ignite Sports.

The lock is currently in discussions with other agents before a sit-down will be scheduled with his former club to potentially return to Leichhardt.
