The hilarious moment Christian Welch finds out his AFL team lost during Craig Bellamy’s presser

It was elation for Storm skipper Christian Welch on Friday night, but one nugget of information left him devastated post-match.

Storm captain reacting to AFL bombshell goes viral

It was elation for Storm skipper Christian Welch and his teammates on Friday night after a stunning Will Warbrick try booked Melbourne’s spot in the NRL preliminary finals next week.

But you can’t win them all and in the case of Welch, a Demons fan, it was heartbreak after Melbourne went down in a thriller to Carlton across the road at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

NCA Newswire reporter Martin Gabor first pointed out on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Welch found out about the Demons loss during Friday night’s press conference.

The Storm front rower himself confirmed as much, writing that he left for the press conference with two minutes left and his Demons leading.

There was another moment earlier in the press conference where Welch was equally as shocked while looking in the same direction, potentially finding out Carlton had kicked the go-ahead goal with just over a minute remaining.

Either way, it is the not the first time Welch has unintentionally provided entertainment in a press conference after a hot mic moment involving fellow finalists Newcastle earlier this year.

On that occasion, Welch asked coach Craig Bellamy how the Knights lost to an understrength Panthers team that had rested their Origin stars.

Newcastle has gone on to win every game since that point.
