Broncos star Tevita Pangai Jr is irate at suggestions he badmouthed teammates to rival clubs as his axing saga took another twist.

Under-fire Broncos forward Tevita Pangai Jr is irate at suggestions he badmouthed his teammates, coach and club in a personal conversation with Roosters powerbroker Nick Politis.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported Pangai Jr, who has been stood down by the NRL over his infamous barbershop bikie saga, has sought legal advice to defend himself against the allegations.

The 24-year-old is trying to prevent his $650,000 a season deal from being torn up by the club.

The Broncos have given the fiery forward permission to negotiate with rival clubs, but Pangai Jr is reluctant to leave Brisbane.

The Tongan international angered the club over suggestions he inquired with the Roosters about their salary cap and slagged off his own team and coach in the process.

The Broncos also took issue with Pangai Jr missing a team meeting last Saturday, which they will use as further grounds to sack him.

The 81-game star maintains he didn’t know the barbecue was compulsory.

Pangai Jr’s judiciary record will also be included in the Broncos argument, with the big man missing 14 of the Broncos last 38 games through suspension.

The Broncos are set for a legal battle with Pangai Jr’s lawyers set to argue if his case is worse than indiscretions from other key people in the game in Latrell Mitchell, and Wayne Bennett during the pandemic lockdown.

The inconsistencies in the sanctions for COVID-19 breaches are believed to be a key part of his defence.
