ON the cusp of a shock State of Origin call-up for NSW just three weeks ago, Roosters winger BJ Leilua was yesterday sent to Henson Park to play park football with the Newtown Jets - his career hanging by a thread.

The winger was last week stood down by the Roosters after he was charged with assault and sending lewd photographs of his ex-girlfriend via mobile phone.

Facing possible jail time, Leilua made a humbling return to the football field, scuffling with an opponent and scoring two tries in the Jets' 26-12 win over Wentworthville. He was sent to the NSW Cup ahead of his court hearing this week.

"BJ faces the courts this week and we thought it would be good to get him out on the field," Roosters CEO Steve Noyce said.

"We will continue to support him and await the outcome of the case. It is a serious matter but we will await the outcome before we take further action."

Leilua is alleged to have spat on his former girlfriend, before sending personal photos of her to other people following an argument on May 26.
