SA Premier reveals how he chose which state to back in Adelaide Origin game

The Premier has declared his allegiance ahead of the opening State of Origin game between Queensland and NSW at Adelaide Oval next week.

The South Australian Premier has declared which team he’ll be backing ahead of the opening game of this year’s State of Origin series at Adelaide Oval.

In a Twitter post on Thursday, Peter Malinauskas, who has a great mateship with NSW Premier Chris Minns, posted a video revealing his method for choosing who to back.

“Premier Minns from NSW is saying, ‘Pete, you’ve gotta back the Blues,’ Annastacia is saying I’ve gotta go for the Maroons,” Premier Malinauskas said, holding a blank footy at Adelaide Oval.

“This footy is going to decide who I’m barracking for on Wednesday night.”

With one powerful kick, the ball erupted into a bright blue cloud.

“I bag for the Blues!” the Premier said.

Mr Minns shared a photo of himself and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Wednesday evening, remarking “when NSW wins, Anastacia will wear a Blues jersey”.

“But in the unlikely event we don’t, I’ll return the favour,” implying he would wear a maroons jersey if the Queensland team takes the win.

The Adelaide game is the first in the series, with games at Suncorp Stadium in Queensland in June, and Accor Stadium in NSW in July to follow.
