Dominic Perrottet takes swipe at Annastacia Palaszczuk after losing Origin bet
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has reopened an old wound after a lighthearted bet with Queensland counterpart Annastacia Palaszczuk.
Dominic Perrottet has taken a swipe at the Queensland Premier after NSW lost the State of Origin decider.
Queensland took home the shield on Wednesday night with a convincing 22-12 win against the Blues.
The stakes were high for both Mr Perrottet and Annastacia Palaszczuk as they had a wager on who would win, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge turning maroon if Queensland won and Brisbane’s Story Bridge turning blue if NSW were victorious.
The NSW Premier took to his Twitter account on Thursday morning to confirm he would hold up his end of the bargain.
Unable to help himself to one final dig at the Sunshine State, Mr Perrottet wrote, “And just like paying a hotel quarantine bill … an agreement is an agreement.”
Last night was tough.

Credit to Queensland, and hats off to our boys - they gave it everything and did us all proud.
And just like paying a hotel quarantine bill.. an agreement is an agreement.
The Harbour Bridge will sadly shine maroon on Fridayâ¦
The jab is in relation to a long-held gripe between the two state governments over a $30m hotel quarantine bill that has gone unpaid by Queensland taxpayers.
The bill is the cost of accommodating the more than 7000 Queensland residents who had to undergo hotel quarantine in NSW.
Mr Perrottet told Sky News in November that Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick was “clearly aware” and should “stick to their agreement”.
Despite the long-held dispute, the NSW Premier issued his congratulations to the winning team and signalled that he would follow through on his promise.
“Credit to Queensland, and hats off to our boys,” he wrote.
“The Harbour Bridge will sadly shine maroon on Friday.”
The Origin bet was made last month when the NSW Premier posted a photo to his Twitter account following the Blues’ overwhelming win in game two of the State of Origin.
Mr Perrottet commissioned someone from his team to photoshop an image of him adorned in a Blues beanie and scarf facing Brisbane’s Story Bridge, which is lit up in electric blue lights.

The image sparked an unofficial understanding between the two state premiers that whichever team took out the decider, the losing state would light up a bridge in the winning team’s colours.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s match, Mr Perrottet made his way to the Sunshine State to support the team in person.
He walked down jam-packed Caxton St before grabbing a beer at a local pub with Ms Palaszczuk before kick-off.
It has been a brutal week of hazing from the NSW Premier who has missed no opportunity to rip into the opposition.
DOM-INATION: NSW Premier @Dom_Perrottet has arrived in enemy territory for tonight's Origin decider and hasn't wasted a moment to start sledging Brisbane and the Maroons.

“There’s not much happening around Brisbane,” Mr Premier joked with a Nine News reporter the morning before the game.
He then went on to poke fun at the city’s answer to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Looking forward to cheering on Freddy and the @NSWBlues tonight.@AnnastaciaMP tried to explain to me what the Story Bridge is.

“I hadn’t heard of the Story Bridge,” he said. “I had to google it just to make sure it was there.
“It’s not really an even bet, Harbour Bridge versus Story Bridge but apparently they’re pretty proud.”
Queensland fans living in Sydney will be chuffed to see the Sydney icon lit up in maroon for one-night only on Friday.
