South Sydney youngster Leon Te Hau collapses at Rabbitohs training

The Rabbitohs immediately called an ambulance for the young star after a scary incident during an training session.

South Sydney has suffered a huge scare after one of the club’s most promising youngsters collapsed at training.

Leon Te Hau, 20, was rushed to hospital after he felt ill and fainted at the Rabbitohs’ Heffron Park headquarters on Wednesday, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The fullback, who has represented Queensland at under-18 level and is considered a star in the making, remains in hospital after club officials swiftly called an ambulance for the youngster.

Te Hau is yet to make his first grade debut, but has performed well in the NSW Cup and can play on the wing or in the No. 1 jumper.

“(Souths) are hopeful he’ll be all right,” journalist Brent Read said on Triple M radio.

“He’s undergoing testing now in hospital and optimistic he should get a positive response to that.”

Te Hau made his NSW Cup debut for the Rabbits in July 2022 and has made eight appearances to date, including three in 2024, scoring one try this season.

The club is expecting him to make a full recovery, but it’s just the latest setback in a horror season to date for the Rabbitohs.

Optimistic of a strong season in 2024, the Bunnies have won just one of their opening six matches to sit dead last on the table.

Souths has a bye this weekend and then faces another arduous test in round eight when it takes on the Storm at AAMI Park in Melbourne.

The start to the year has also heaped pressure on coach Jason Demetriou, with a number of coaches being linked with the role, including Kangaroos mentor and NRL great Mal Meninga.
