Sharks star Siosifa Talakai had a warrant issued for his arrest by a Sydney magistrate after he failed to attend court to answer for a minor driving charge.

The Daily Telegraph reported Talakai was due to attend Sutherland Local Court on Thursday June 9 after highway police officers charged him with driving with an expired licence on Captain Cook Drive at Caringbah on May 13.

Talakai was not present in court when his case was called just after 12.30pm on Thursday, with Magistrate Roger Prowse issuing an arrest warrant, despite the charge carrying a maximum fine of $2,200.

The Daily Telegraph brought the incident to the attention of the Sharks, who were unaware of Talakai’s predicament.

The Sharks chose to stop Talakai flying to Redcliffe for their game against the Warriors on Sunday until the matter was resolved and sent their legal team to try and get the court’s decision overturned.

The court reconvened on Friday afternoon with Magistrate Hugh Donnelly revoking the warrant and adjourning the case until Thursday June 23.

Sharks media manager Rob Willis explained to The Telegraph that Talakai’s no-show was an oversight with the Cronulla centre unaware he was due to front court that day.

Willis admitted Talakai had not disclosed the charge to the club but would not disclose if he would face repercussions.

The Sharks would not comment on whether Talakai plans to plead guilty to the charges when court reconvenes on June 23.
