THREE Scottish players, including captain Danny Brough, have been sacked from the Rugby League World Cup side for misconduct.

THREE Scottish players, including captain Danny Brough, have been sacked from their national side for misconduct.

In a statement, Scotland Rugby League said players Johnny Walker, Sam Brooks and Brough had been released from the World Cup squad.

The players were left behind in Christchurch following their 74-6 thrashing at the hands of the Kiwis on Saturday, while the rest of the team travelled to Cairns ahead of their clash against Samoa.

It’s believed the trio were stood down after they were refused entry onto a flight for being intoxicated.

Scotland Rugby League chairman, Keith Hogg, said the players were let go for not adhering to team standards.

“We expect everyone involved in Scotland Rugby League to adhere to the highest standards of behaviour,” he said.

“We fully support the code of conduct that is in place for everyone who is involved in the 2017 World Cup.

“We all understand our responsibilities to the game and we must respect the sport and everyone who is involved in it at all times.

“Unfortunately, these three players have not adhered to those standards and those values and will be leaving early from a tournament that it is a privilege for us to be involved in.”
