Sam Burgess has posted on Instagram for the first time in six months a day after police were called to his wife’s family home.

Just days after widespread reports of his marriage breakdown, NRL superstar Sam Burgess has reportedly been ordered to attend court over an AVO application filed by his father-in-law.

Burgess will reportedly attend Moss Vale Local Court on November 6 to respond to an AVO filed by Mitchell Hooke, the father of his estranged wife Phoebe.

The Daily Telegraph reports NSW Police have granted Hooke a temporary AVO against Burgess following an argument on Saturday.

The report claims police attended the home of Mr Hooke in Bowral, country NSW, on Saturday after he called police following the argument at his family home.

Channel 9 reported on Sunday night an incident occurred at the Bowral residence around 5pm (AEDT) on Saturday.

Burgess was reportedly asked to leave the property by Hooke when the argument turned heated.

Burgess left the property when asked and it is not alleged he did anything wrong by visiting the house.

He is yet to comment on the situation but posted a photograph on Instagram on Sunday — his first post since April.

Wife Phoebe was reportedly not home when Burgess arrived at the Bowral house to visit his children, Poppy, 2, and Billy, 10 months.

“Police are investigating an incident at a property near Bowral shortly after 5pm yesterday,” a police spokeswoman said on Sunday afternoon.

“There are no reports of any injuries.”

Phoebe Burgess is yet to comment on reports of her split from NRL star Sam.

According to The Sunday Telegraph earlier this month the couple had been living apart in the weeks leading up to their split, with Phoebe pictured still wearing her wedding ring earlier this month.

Speculation that things weren’t going well first began when Sam was snapped moving his belongings out of their eastern suburbs home in January.

In September last year the pair had been rocked by a sexting scandal, after a woman claimed she was exposed to lewd images of Rabbitohs players sent from Sam’s social media account.

The 30-year-old league player was embroiled in the controversy, though Sam was later officially cleared of any wrongdoing by the Souths.

In emails to the club, the 23-year-old woman claimed she felt violated in her online interaction with the players, who she said exposed themselves to her in a video chat.

Phoebe Burgess had reportedly been preparing to move her family back closer to his parents in Bowral.

Meanwhile, Burgess’ NRL career has been plunged into uncertainty following a series of shoulder injury setbacks this year.

Burgess missed England’s end-of-season matches in a bid to manage his shoulder, which required surgery midway through this year.

Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett was last week forced to downplay concerns over his star forward, with four years still to run on his contract.

South Sydney star Damien Cook on Monday said he has “no doubt” Burgess will run out next to him at the Rabbitohs next NRL season.

“His shoulder just needs rest,” Cook told reporters in Kangaroos camp in Wollongong.

“Sam is probably someone that has brought himself back a couple of times early because we needed to have him back on the field to help us get to the finals.

“Now he just needs real good rest and hopefully he is just looking after his shoulder. We want to make sure first and foremost his health is there.

“You don’t want any permanent damage to any player after their career and Sam has given his whole body to the game. But I’ve got no doubt he will be playing with us next year.”
