CANADA’S Janai Haupapa has been rubbed out of the World Cup after pleading guilty to a biting charge on a Jillaroo.
CANADA’S Janai Haupapa has been rubbed out of the women’s World Cup after pleading guilty to a biting charge on Jillaroos co-captain Renae Kunst.
Haupapa chose not to defend the Grade B contrary conduct charge which carries a two-match suspension this morning.
With only the semi-final and final remaining in the women’s tournament, Haupapa has played her last game of the World Cup.
The incident occurred during the Jillaroos 88-0 nil thrashing of Canada on Wednesday at Southern Cross Group Stadium.
The 21st minute incident saw Kunst reel out of a wrapping tackle made on the Canadian.
Kunst was visibly irate as she immediately pointed towards her arm before approaching referee Joey Butler to lodge a formal complaint.
With the game brought to a standstill, the ground manager came onto the pitch and took photos of Kunst’s arm.
Those photos were used as evidence for the World Cup match review committee to charge Haupapa after the match with a Grade B contrary conduct charge which equates to a two-match ban.
Haupapa will watch her teammates from the sidelines when Australia face Canada in the semi-final on Sunday.
