Roosters demolish Tigers with ‘stupidly dangerous’ weapons

If anyone thought the Roosters weren’t going to be as strong a threat in 2021 then Brett Morris and James Tedesco have proven them wrong.

The Roosters are a juggernaut.

There should be very little the Sydney Roosters do that surprises anyone any more with the heavyweights thrashing the Tigers 40-6, in back-to-back 40 point games.

After heading into the break at 18-6, the Roosters just kept going to crush the Tigers.

While the obituaries for the Tigers season may already have started to be written, it’s more the Roosters who are in red hot form.

Brett Morris scored a second straight hat-trick while James Tedesco managed two tries to take his season tally to five.

The early stages looked ominous for the Tigers when the Roosters opened up a 12-0 lead after 14 minutes before hooker Jacob Liddle hit back for Wests with a try of his own.

Filling the boots of 2020 Dally M rookie of the year Harry Grant, who was on loan from the Melbourne Storm, Liddle had a strong start that gave the Tigers hope.

James Tedesco also had his first two tries against his former club.

But the Roosters again proved to be relentless, running in seven tries to one in another thrashing.

After a Saturday that saw a Manly side that was not as hopeless as they were made to look by the Roosters in round one, Sydney did it again with a relentless attack on the Tigers, showing the competition that they are at another level to the sides they’ve played in the first two rounds.

Morris continues to defy his age, with the 34-year-old taking his career try tally to 171 tries, just nine short of Manly legend Steve Menzies as the third highest tryscorer of all time.

He’s still 51 off the legendary Ken Irvine for the all-time record of 212, but Billy Slater’s 190 try milestone could still be under threat.

Brett Morris is on some try scoring streak.

Morris was his normal humble self at the end of the match.

“I’m on the end of a backline with Keary, Tedesco, Manu. It’s nice to be out here,” he told ABC Grandstand.

But it’s not just Morris with the Roosters’ right side clearly appearing to be the side’s big weapon.

“Back-to-back 40 point performances by the Roosters to begin 2021,” Warren Smith said in Fox League commentary.

“How slick do they look, this is ominous. It’s a shot across the bow for every team in the competition. The back-to-back champions in 2018 and 2019, they are one of the heavyweight, no surprise, this season.”
