RESPECTED winger Luke Burt will retire at end of the year, but will continue with the Parramatta Eels in an off-field role next season.
The 31-year-old, who will leave the game as the Eels’ all-time leading try-scorer and one of just eight players in Premiership history to pass 1700 career points, will work in the club’s Welfare and Education unit.
“I’ve loved every minute playing for Parramatta and being part of this great club, and I made the decision some time ago that this would be my last year,” Burt said, who played 14 seasons with Parramatta and celebrated his 250th first grade game earlier in the year.
“Joining the full-time staff next year will be a new challenge for me and it’s one I’m excited about.
“Helping the younger blokes coming through is something I’ve always enjoyed as a player, so to be concentrating on their education and welfare full-time is a great opportunity for me.
“I really believe the club is heading in the right direction - we’ve got the players, coaches and staff we need and I’m just happy to be able to contribute to that."
