Penrith Panthers hammered for inexcusable mistake on Isaah Yeo’s milestone match jersey

The Panthers had a night to forget on Friday as they were stunned by the Cowboys, but eagle eyed fans pointed out the club already made a howler pre-game.

Panthers unable to ice Cowboys in thrilling finish

The Panthers are in crisis after suffering a fourth straight defeat, however, it is not just their on-field performance raising eyebrows with an embarrassing gaffe around Isaah Yeo’s 250th game spotted by eagle-eyed fans.

On Friday night the Cowboys stunned the four-time defending premiers 22-18, with neither Cleary’s return from concussion nor their fearless leader’s milestone match prompting an improved performance.

However, despite it not going to plan, Yeo’s 250th was a special occasion, as he became the first player ever to reach that milestone for the club.

The Panthers co-captain was joined by family members for a special presentation before kick-off but sadly a glaring mistake stole the show.

On what was a monumental occasion, the Panthers inexplicably got the date of his milestone match incorrect.

Written on a special patch on his milestone jersey, a keepsake that will likely be framed on his wall for decades to come, the Panthers wrote the date of the milestone game as March 4, rather than April 4.

While it isn’t quite as bad as the ‘Dargons’ blunder last year, where St George Illawarra misspelled their team moniker on Jack Bird’s 150th game jersey, it was definitely one that understandably left fans shaking their heads.

Veteran reporter Peter Lang was among those to first comment on Friday night’s mistake, writing on X: “The date is wrong on Penrith’s captain’s 250th First Grade Game special jersey,” Lang wrote.

“That will just about do me for the night. Unbelievable!”

Another Panthers fan added: “God. Don’t put us in the same category as the Dargons, going to be one of those seasons”.

A third wrote: Panthers can’t get anything right this season.

While a fourth chimed in: “Sadly sums up the night”.

After the four-point loss on Friday, Penrith’s 1-4 record is officially the club’s worst start to a season since 2013.

They will now need to regroup fast ahead of a trip to Redcliffe to face the winless Dolphins on Thursday.
