Brisbane Broncos star Payne Haas has reportedly signed a multi-year contract extension to remain at the NRL heavyweights.

The 23-year-old prop became the most wanted man in rugby league after he announced plans to explore his options on the open market when free agency begins on November 1 in the hope of a mega payday.

But the Courier Mail reports Haas has agreed to a new three-year deal worth $3.5 million to remain at the Broncos in a huge boost to Brisbane and coach Kevin Walters.

The new deal will see Haas earn up to $1.2 million per season, making him the highest paid Broncos player in the club’s 35-year history.

Haas was already signed for 2024 but the new super-sized contract will see him remain at the Broncos until the end of 2026.

Haas’ new contract will reportedly be officially announced in the next 24 hours.

It reportedly has a ratchet clause that could see his contract increase in value if the NRL’s salary cap goes up.

The Broncos will be breathing a sigh of relief after Haas was linked to various rival NRL clubs and even a possible cross-code switch to Super Rugby team the Western Force.

And Phil Gould’s Canterbury Bulldogs would have fancied their chances to throw the chequebook at Haas given Tevita Pangai Jr’s shock decision to quit the NRL would have opened up some salary cap space.

The re-signing comes at the perfect time for the Broncos, who are second on the ladder and loom as one of the few teams who can genuinely challenge Penrith for the premiership.
