Paul Vautin’s X-rated comment staggers State of Origin co-host

Paul Vautin is an open book at the best of times, but his final comment from the State of Origin series opener may have gone too far.

Fatty Vautin has always had a way with words — and he was at it again on Wednesday night.

Still basking in the warm glow of a classic Queensland underdog, courageous win, Vautin was even more candid than he normally is — and the man has almost no internal filter at the best of times.

He was willing to share what some might call a little bit too much information as he discussed the cold Adelaide air in the post-match wrap-up on Channel 9 following Queensland’s famous 26-18 win.

The open air studio desk on the sidelines of the Adelaide Oval clearly didn’t agree with Vautin — who let the viewers know about his difficulties while speaking with host James Bracey and expert analyst Allana Ferguson.

Vautin said “thank goodness” it was time for the broadcast to finish as he struggled to the finish line of his day’s work.

He said: “My testes...” and then made a shrinking gesture with his hands that left viewers in no doubt about what was happening to his frozen tackle.

His frank honesty in sharing details of his diminishing private parts left Ferguson aghast and speechless.

“I was gonna say, hope you don’t say what you said before,” she said with a stunned smile. “Only you could do that.”

It wasn’t the only time the cold got to Vautin’s brain after the game.

His description of State of Origin football wasn’t quite to the same level of analysis his colleagues Cameron Smith and Phil Gould are famous for.

“Origin is the simplest rugby league to play. You want your big boofhead forwards doing the job and if you’ve got a winger that can fall over the line and score a try, you’re done” he said when speaking of Queensland’s brave fight back in the final 15 minutes.

“That’s all there is to it.”

Gould responded with a smile: “From the greatest Queensland coach of all time.”

Vautin also had some serious things to say and he was full of admiration for the 17 players that wore the Maroons’ jumper on Wednesday night.

“This Origin game gets better every year,” he said on Nine.

“That’s one of the greatest wins I’ve ever seen from the Queensland team. They lost a player after 20 minutes in Tom Gilbert, they had one of the worst sin bins I’ve ever seen in my life.

“They lost another play for 10 minutes and in that 10 minutes, they scored two tries. It’s an outstanding effort. They won on the defence and defence wins Origins.”
